Hours in 10a.m. - 5:10p.m. (7 hrs 10mins total)
Job - Maker
10a.m. - 11a.m
Drew circle to cover the nuts visible on face plate, using compass onto a thick piece of ply-board
Then another student cut out the circle on the band saw before I sanded the edges to give a smoother finish on the disk sander.
11a.m.- 2p.m.
I took the arrow block and using a belt sander flattened down the edges to make sure both blocks were even.
After this I used filler filled the gap between both blocks and any areas that needed to be smoothed down.
I also used the filler to fill any gaps around the outside of the small circle as well as to cover the face, of the small circle so that when painted there would be no wood grain visible.
I then put these to the side to let them dry.
Whilst waiting I painted the face with white emulsion to prime it for being painted. I used a roller as this left a better finish overall than using a paint brush which left streaks across the piece.
I then placed these pieces to the side to dry.
By now the pieces I had covered in filler had dried and were ready to be sanded, I used a coarse sand paper to start with this helped to take down lumps quickly however left large scratched across the surface so I moved onto sanding the pieces down with a much finer sand paper which left a much smoother finish.
Once sanded I wiped the dust off of them before then moving on to paint these with the white emulsion.
By now the other painted pieces were ready for a quick sand over with a fine sand paper, helping to take down any lumps on the surface.
We quickly re-drilled holes in the face and backboard so that all the screws would fit in as a couple were out by a fraction.
2p.m. - 5p.m.
We spray painted the back stand with gold paint.
We mixed together Rosco super saturated paints to start painting the game spinner, however we found that they turned out too streaky on the small pieces, and ran under the masking tape we were using to keep the lines neat.
After this we decided to let them dry, before repainting them with emulsion, letting them dry, and then using spray paints instead, we found that the spray paint gave a much neater finish on the smaller surface, though ended up being very time consuming as we had to do each one individually to stop the transfer of paint into areas it wasn't supposed to be
We were able to finish the red areas and pieces but as we had no purple spray paint this has to be left until we can get the paint needed.
